It's two years today since I slipped on holiday and fractured my leg. The full story can be found in my blog. I must admit as I write this, I do wonder if it will ever be fixed.

Added to this site, details my family tree. Something that I have been researching over the last few years. The family tree, not only covers the "Holland" family, but also that of the "Collins", Caroline's family.

Over the last couple few days, as I'm not very mobile at present and cannot get up to much, I have expanded my blog on the experiences of living with an Ilizarov spatial frame. So far the story has been captured over 3 parts. See here: Story of a broken leg. Part 4 is planned for next month.

I have been home from hospital for a couple of days, following successful surgery to have a frame fitted to my broken leg. I have decided to write a blog about my experiences of breaking my leg and having an Ilizarov spatial frame fitted, in the hope it may benefit people in similar situations in the future. My blog can be accessed via the menu or this link: Story of a broken leg.

Well I have failed miserably to update this site in the last 6 weeks! The reason is I have been so busy with catching up on Jobs around the house. Despite my broken leg, I look back at the last 6 weeks in amazement at what I have acheived. Our Home has had all those little jobs done that have been hanging around for ages and internally painted a good proportion of the house. Gardening is up to date and all the routine jobs Caroline and I had to frantically do between us at the weekends, I have been able to do a good proportion of them in the week. Thus allowing Caroline and I to have quality time together in the evenings and weekends. How did I ever manage to find time to work!

Tomorrow is a big day, I go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham to have an operation to have an "Ilizarov" frame fitted to my left leg and bone samples taken to test for a possible infection in the tibia bone of my leg, preventing that bone, after 2 years, from healing.

Today I have not gone to work, not because I'm ill or 'on leave', but I retired from work on Friday. This is my first day of retirement. A day that is exciting and at the same time apprehensive. I know I will feel that I am just on leave for the first few weeks as it will take time for reality to sink in. It is however such a good relaxing feeling to not have had last night that Sunday night feeling of work the next day, or the nervous anxiety associated with the unkown, that naturally stems from having to do things not within your full control, things you may not be comfortable with and feel obliged to do when working for an employer.

Hopefully have time now to update this site, but we'll see!

Updates to this website had stalled, but I will now be retiring from full-time work at end of March, so will be looking to get this site updated and use it more for personal news updates and as a possible social media replacement.

The skeleton of this website has been put together. There are many pages to complete and update, but I start back to work now so updating likely to be slow.

This is very early days and the site is only just beginning to be created - a lot of learning as we go along. Probably start with a few Astronomy and Maths tools, then hope to publish some puzzles, photographs and hobby stuff (amateur radio, electronics, model railways) - basically anything that interests me.
