What makes a good puzzle?
For me, a good puzzle sends you down an investigative path; one that isn't random or esoteric, but is well grounded, be that in logic or lateral thinking. It's not overly complicated and yet gives sufficient challenge to exercise the mind. It becomes a journey of discovery that invokes in its solution elements of surprise, learning and amusement. It is self-satisfying, producing a reaction of "Aha" and elation as you realise you have won the intellectual tour de force and the enigma is no more.
